Nursing home abuse and neglect can strike any family with loved ones in such a facility. In a nursing home, one nurse may be administering medication for 30, 35 or 40 or more residents. Usually, during an eight hour shift, there is an early and late medication pass. It is possible the nurse must make 60 or 70 or more passes.
Keep in mind the nurse may be a float nurse or from an agency and may not know the residents at all. Medication problems require good inter-professional communication and team meetings to resolve, whether they be medication errors or adverse reactions. Remember, drugs can do wonderful things and can improve your quality of life, but be smart and understand you or your loved one's medication.
